Global Water Intelligence (GWI) Boosts Water Business Portfolio With Acquisition Of ULTRAPURE WATER®' Journal (UPW) And INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT (IWT)

Tall Oaks Publishing Inc. (TOP) has sold ULTRAPURE WATER® journal (UPW) and INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT (IWT) to Global Water Intelligence (GWI) on May 1. The transaction includes the on-line publications, associated intellectual property, and the rights to conferences TOP has organized or plans to hold.

Littleton, CO (PRWEB) - UPW was launched in April 1984 by Frank Slejko, Ph.D. to provide information on the treatment of high-purity water such as used within the laboratory, pharmaceutical, power generation, and semiconductor industries. The publication moved from print to on-line publishing in January 2009. IWT was published in the 1990s and then was reintroduced in January 2012 as a bi-monthly technical magazine covering treatment of industrial and process water and wastewater, cooling water, desalination, and produced water. In addition to the journals, TOP also has organized conferences, including ULTRAPURE WATER Pharma (June 3-4, 2014, in Philadelphia) and ULTRAPURE WATER Micro.

As part of the change, TOP will retain ownership of its web domain (http://www.talloaks.com) and continue to offer the 12 water treatment technical books it has published. The books cover high-purity and industrial water treatment technologies such as reverse osmosis, ion exchange, condensate polishing, and filtration. Treatment applications also touched on by the books include water used by the pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and power generation, among other topics.

GWI is a leading source of water market information. Its publications include Global Water Intelligence magazine, Water Desalination Report newsletter, DesalData.com website, IDA Desalination Yearbook, and in-depth market reports. The company also conducts two yearly conferences: the Global Water Summit, and the American Water Summit, which will be conducted Oct. 23-24 in Houston, Texas.

Global Water Intelligence was launched in June 2000 by the CWC Group. Media Analytics Ltd., led by Christopher Gasson bought it in September 2002. In 2003, GWI launched Desalination Tracker, and in 2004 published its Desalination Markets report. Media Analytics acquired two related publications in 2005—the IDA Worldwide Desalting Plant Inventory (now known as the IDA Desalination Yearbook, and DesalData.com) and Water Desalination Report. Today, the company employs 40 people at its Oxford headquarters, and a further half dozen or so at various locations around the world.

Mike Henley will remain as editor of UPW and IWT, a role he began in 1990. In addition to his editorial duties, he has also been active in helping organize conferences through the years.

Both ULTRAPURE WATER Pharma and ULTRAPURE WATER Micro will be conducted this year as planned. More details will be available at the http://www.ultrapurewater.com web site.

Commenting on the acquisition, Christopher Gasson, GWI’s publisher, said, “We are excited to be taking on ULTRAPURE WATER journal. It is an important step in our strategy to be the leading information provider in the international water industry. We are looking forward to working with the editor Mike Henley, to take the title to new heights.”

UPW founder Dr. Slejko said, “It was an amazing experience starting a new magazine at a time when the high-purity water industry was in its infancy, seeing it grow, then watch it consolidate into its present state, all the while having the publishing model morphing from paper into the cloud. 30 years of continued profits was a good, long run. Now it’s time to pass the baton.”
