Cloud Technology Ensures Uninterrupted Monitoring Of Water Treatment Facilities

Sentinel

The Sentinel system from Sensaphone uses cloud technology to provide supervised 24/7 remote monitoring of environmental conditions and unattended equipment at water treatment facilities. The Sentinel system constantly communicates a signal to the Sensaphone cloud to validate its online status. If the communication link is interrupted – for example by a power outage or an employee accidentally switching off the unit – the system generates an alarm indicating that Internet connection is lost or that there is a cellular communications problem. Users are alerted about the disruption through phone, text or email.

“Because the Sentinel system is cloud-based, it essentially supervises itself and takes the burden out of managing your monitoring system,” said Rob Fusco, Technical Support and Service Manager at Sensaphone. “When the system detects problems, it notifies users so they can take fast action.”

With the Sentinel system, operators can access the status of all conditions in real time from any device and at any time. The Sentinel system can also be used as a data acquisition device, and unlike traditional monitoring devices that store data internally and overwrite older information, the cloud-based Sentinel system allows unlimited data logging that users can view, graph, print and export. Data is never lost and can be viewed via the Sensaphone iPhone/Android app or sensaphone.net.

The Sentinel system is also a convenient solution for oil & gas operations, agricultural and livestock facilities, commercial greenhouses, HVACR applications and medical and commercial food freezers. When environmental changes or equipment malfunctions threaten facilities and the assets they house, the Sentinel system automatically alerts operators who can immediately remedy the potentially costly and dangerous situation.

Only one unit is required to monitor up to 12 different environmental and equipment status conditions including temperature from -85 °C to 76 °C, humidity, water detection and power failure. No software is required, so installation, integration and management of the system are fast and easy. Users can simply and securely manage as many systems as necessary from a single interface. The standard Sentinel system is Ethernet based, but it is also available with a cellular option for remote locations where Internet connectivity is unavailable.

The Sentinel PRO monitoring system supports the Modbus communications protocol and includes a second relay output – capabilities required to monitor and control complex networks. The Sentinel PRO system interacts with all existing sensors throughout a facility. By integrating devices, the system can immediately deliver critical system-wide information and provide operators with on-demand, real-time status and data acquisition from any Internet-connected device.
