A wastewater holding basin in Moberly, MO has been drained after multiple odor violations and weeks of complaints from residents. The action comes after months of investigation into the cause of the smell and is part of a comprehensive plan to reduce the risk of future problems.

According to multiple news reports, residents first began reaching out to city officials about the basin in April 2023. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources issued a violation to the city on Nov. 15, 2023. A deadline of Dec. 29 was given to remedy the smell.
