KSB's RDLO split case pump offers a low-wear, easy-maintenance solution for long-term value.

KSB, the world's most experienced supplier of pumps and pump parts, promotes the RDLO split case pump. This versatile, reinforced pump is ideal for applications ranging from raw and pure industrial water to seawater. The RDLO's state-of-the-art engineering ensures a cost-effective, long-lasting solution for water managers in need of an efficient, sustainable, and low-maintenance product.

Responding to an urgent need
"The RDLO pump is part of a complete range of modern pumps with the capacity for combining the necessary components and features according to the end-user's specific needs," says Horst Sturm, KSB's Vice President of Business Development. "It has been newly reengineered and developed to be a very highly efficient, modern product, and to make it easy and safe for maintenance."

Thanks to its reliability, low-maintenance costs, and service-friendly design, the RDLO pump responds to the growing concerns of water managers in the U.S. and abroad. Aging infrastructure requiring major upgrades can be a hassle, while substantial usage involves the future use of modern tools to manage clogs and wear. Environmental consequences from storms or drought causes for suitable water management systems and transportation.

"Many pipes, valves, and pumps are 60 or sometimes 70 years old. So it is not surprising that in many municipalities, broken pipes or pumps are now creating a disaster," Sturm says. "The real efficiency for these old, continuously operating pumps and motors may be much lower than we would require in a system designed today. The same goes for the life of parts, equipment and the ease of maintenance."

Savings beyond installation
Although budgets may be strained for the investment in new and superior pumps, the initial cost can prevent the counterproductive. This often leads organizations, municipalities, and governments to settle for equipment that comes in at the lowest bid. When users encounter additional maintenance expenses and higher-than-expected operating costs, these low-entry products end up costing more in the long run.

"This is counterproductive, if you look at the total lifecycle costs of the equipment," Sturm explains. "Investing in a pump is only a very minor percentage of cost over the lifecycle of the equipment. The initial selection of the right, high-quality materials would be paid back in the following years in reduced operating and maintenance cost."
Finding a long-lasting, low-maintenance, and cost-effective solution is key, and the RDLO split volute case pump offers a reliable solution:

  • User-friendly design: No effort for adjustment or alignment is required for assembly due to the self-aligning mechanical seal and rotor, self-positioning casing cover, and force-guided assembly. A solid casing split flange provides trouble-free sealing of the upper and lower casing halves. When maintenance is needed, the cover's hexagon head bolts are removable to allow complete access to the interior of the pump, making maintenance uncomplicated while lowering the risk of costly mistakes.
  • Efficient water transport: The RDLO pump has low NPSH values and is optimized and designed to move water efficiently in the user's specific setting.
  • Long-term reliability: The double volute casing and double-entry impeller provide a minimal load on the bearings, stretching the calculated operating life for all sizes to at least 100,000 hours. A sealed, dry shaft and protected threads mean no corrosion or wear on the shaft and no jamming or fretting of shaft nut. Corrosion- and abrasion-resistant materials give incredibly long service lives for the shaft-protecting sleeves, impeller, and casing wear rings. Solid bearing brackets, a rigid shaft, and the double volute casing ensure quiet operation, low vibration, and long operation.
  • Affordable maintenance: Different material combinations provide the best-wearing options for any given application, reducing maintenance costs over the pump's lifecycle. Only minimal spare parts are necessary to keep on-hand and are easy to obtain from more than 100 service centers around the world. To add to the pump's flexibility, spare parts can also be used for different pump sizes.

Customized for maximum value
The service-friendly design and low maintenance costs are hallmarks of the RDLO and other KSB products. This highly-engineered pump line is well known and employed in installations around the world.

Optional sizes for the RDLO are a feature that other pump suppliers may not offer. KSB also provides an array of parts to ensure the extended life and efficiency of each pump in any application. "We offer a customized combination of materials to make sure you have the best fit," Sturm says.

KSB gladly consults with customers, examining their pumping application and water type before recommending the right combination of materials to deliver maximum value over the long term.
