Article: A Green Option For Water & Wastewater Treatment

Environmentally friendly and safe, Ozone is a chemical-free treatment method for drinking and waste water facilities. Using Ozone for disinfection and oxidation prevents dangerous chemicals from being stored on-site and injected into water supplies. Created from oxygen, Ozone is safe to use and generate on-site. Additionally, once Ozone oxidizes contaminants, it returns to oxygen, which eliminates concerns over hazardous pollutants resulting from the off-gas of a treatment system.

For drinking water treatment, disinfection and virus control are vitally important. Disinfection by Ozone occurs by the rupture or disintegration of the bacteria cell wall, which is known as cell lysis. The mechanism of Ozone disinfection differs significantly from that which is observed with chlorine. Chlorine diffuses through the cell wall of the bacteria and results in death by attack of enzymes. The differences between Ozone and chlorine concerning their disinfection mechanism also results in much faster disinfection rates of Ozone than that of chlorine.
