The body of a 71-year-old woman was found in a duffel bag in an underground water utility vault in Las Vegas last month. Now two people have been arrested in connection to the alleged murder.

“A utility worker found a broken lock on the vault and opened it, and a human hand could be seen before detectives were called to the scene,” the Las Vegas Sun reported. The vault had not been checked since July. Flies and a suspicious smell drew attention to the vault.

The victim has been identified as 71-year-old Young Suk Sanchez of Las Vegas, according to KTNV. “Police say the duffel was found in a water district valve locker that's about 5 feet deep. The vault cover at sidewalk level was apparently broken,” the report said.

The young couple allegedly connected to the crime, 23-year-old Veronica Houck and 33-year-old Jamar Webb, were arrested in Minden, LA in October, the report said. Police say they believe Houck was acquainted with the victim.

"They befriended the victim and ended up conspiring to murder her, possibly for financial gain," Las Vegas police Lt. Dan McGrath said, per the Sun.

The charges are as followers, per KTNV:

Houck is facing charges of murder, robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Webb was arrested on charges of burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of a credit card with owner's consent and fraudulent use of a credit card. Police said additional charges are possible as the investigation progresses.
