Glenbard Wastewater Authority Buys NISSEN Biogas CHPs On The Road To Become Energy Neutral

NISSEN

NISSEN Energi Teknik, a Danish supplier of Combined Heat and Power units (CHPs) and gas treatment systems for wastewater treatment plants, has recently received an order from Glenbard Wastewater Authority in Chicago. The CHPs will be connected to digesters at the treatment plant and generate power and heat from biogas.

“Glenbard WWA wishes to become energy neutral at their wastewater treatment plant. By adding our CHPs, they will be able to produce the majority of the power and heat they need from gasses that emerge from from the treatment process,” Thorvald Pedersen, CEO at Nissen, says.

The order from Glenbard WWA includes CHPs that are capable of operating on biogas or natural gas as backup.

Discovered technology in Denmark
The order from Glenbard WWA is a result of two workshops in Chicago that were arranged by Water Technology Alliance. Here, Danish companies shared knowledge of energy neutral wastewater treatment plants with American colleagues. The workshop was followed by a fact finding tour to Denmark where representatives from Glenbard WWA and a number of American utilities and companies were presented to several Danish solutions.

“Among others, they saw the facilities at Aarhus Water, a Danish utility, which is frontrunner within energy efficiency. Here, Glenbard WWA was introduced to our CHPs in operation and relatively short after the visit to Aarhus they approached us with an inquiry,” Thorvald Pedersen says.

Nissen Energy Teknik will be exhibiting on the Danish Pavilion at WEFTEC in Chicago. Meet them in Hall B, booth no. 2688.
