CH2M has named Peter Nicol as president of its water business. Nicol succeeds Greg McIntyre, who is overseeing all global business operations, serving as President of Global Business Groups.

In his new role, Nicol is responsible for all water activities within CH2M, including overseeing consulting, program management, design, design-build, construction and operations solutions for government, civil, industrial and energy clients. Nicol previously served as CH2M’s Global Water Business Development and Client Sector Director, in which he was predominately responsible for leading and growing CH2M’s international water business. Throughout his career, Nicol has held many leadership and management positions, including International Operations Director for Water, Client Account Manager, Canada Regional Managing Director and Canada Regional Water Business Group Manager. Mr. Nicol also is responsible for leading Water’s focus on public-private partnerships.

“In addition to being an exceptional leader and mentor, Peter has also played an active role in expanding the firm’s international water business, program management opportunities and expertise in a variety of delivery models,” says Global Business Groups President Greg McIntyre. “He is heavily involved in initiatives that rely on his technical expertise, business acumen and deep industry knowledge, and I am pleased that Peter is taking on this critical role in our firm.”

With more than 35 years of experience, all spent at CH2M, Nicol is a recognized leader within the water industry. He has played key roles on numerous water and wastewater projects in Canada and around the world and is actively involved in numerous industry and advocacy organizations, including the Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO), Canadian Water Works Association (CWWA) and Water Environment Federation (WEF). He was recognized with the WEF’s Arthur Sidney Bedell Award for his extraordinary personal service in the water pollution control field. Nicol earned his bachelor of applied science degree in Geological Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences from the University of Toronto.

“With his most recent background in business development and sales, Peter is particularly well-suited for his new role and brings a deep understanding of our clients and their needs,” said Jacque Hinman, CEO and Chair. “Our water business will continue to flourish under Peter’s guidance. I thank Greg for his outstanding leadership over the past several years, and I will continue to rely on him to drive greater efficiencies and operational excellence across all of our business groups in his new role.”
