Band-Aids Or Permanent Repairs For Pipes?

If you go onto the internet you can quickly find that the U.S. has more than one million miles of water main pipe buried in the ground somewhere in this country. That is enough water pipe to go around world more than three times.

Tom Gwynn the President of Krausz USA, told Water Online Radio in an interview, “According to the American Society of Civil Engineers, almost a quarter of a million water main breaks a year is not unusual. The cost of repair is not as much in the equipment as in the cost of labor to fix these things. It is very labor intensive.” One of the things that the American Society of Engineers does every four years is gives the country’s infrastructure a report card graded A-F.

“In 2013, which was the last report, they graded the water distribution systems in the U.S. with a grade of D, as in Dog, which is not an indictment on the industry. I certainly don’t want to carry that label. It is not an indictment but it is certainly an indication that things are aging and we have a challenge in front of us,” Gwynn said.

His company is focused on connecting pipes and repairing pipes considered mundane by some people but exciting to them. “We believe that you can repair pipes rather than putting Band-Aids on it you can put permanent repairs on pipes that can actually extend the life of the systems. That is what we are about, helping municipalities and water systems do that not only permanently but and this is our mantra, as simply and quickly as the repair can be done.”

Krausz offers a variety of products to deal with these issues. One supports ‘dynamic deflection’ of pipes, which is a pipe that ‘loves’ to be bent and moved. It will flex with the shifting ground and won’t leak or break like other inflexible pipes would.
