SCADAPack Smart RTUs for Challenging Applications
Providing reliable data collection, monitoring and control is a crucial component in any SCADA system. However, when critical infrastructure is dispersed over a wide area, often accessible only through a variety of communication media, unique challenges are faced. How current is the data and will it be lost if communication is interrupted? How can unauthorised control or hacking attempts be prevented? Will this work at remote sites where power is very limited?

High cost of engineering and operating
Ever-expanding SCADA systems, focused on gathering process data from geographically dispersed remote sites, are placing increased demands on engineering and maintenance personnel. In an environment of shrinking operational budgets and rising labour and material costs, finding the right controller that can do more for less is crucial.

Operating in challenging environments
Controllers are typically situated in hard-to-access remote locations; subject to extremes in weather conditions and harsh, hazardous industrial environments. With energy costs on the rise, alternate sources such as solar power are being increasingly exploited wherever challenging power conditions exist. Controllers that consume less power and can easily interface with solar infrastructure are needed.

Increased pressure from security threats & regulatory requirements
In recent years, government agencies have been instituting stringent environmental, security and safety regulations. As a result of several high-profile cyber-attacks and environmental disasters, public and governmental awareness is at its highest level. Noncompliance to the regulations can be dangerous for users and the environment, and very expensive if fines are levied.
