The Water Environment Federation (WEF) announces the launch of a redesigned Web site for the National Biosolids Partnership (NBP), a nationally recognized voluntary program that advances environmentally sound biosolids management practices. Complete with a new look and features, the site—www.biosolids.org is now housed within WEF's home site, and serves as an information clearinghouse on effective biosolids practices.

The development of the NBP Web site is part of a larger program update that includes new services to better meet the needs of biosolids management organizations and the communities that they serve. Operated by WEF, in collaboration with the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) and local and regional biosolids management organizations across the U.S. and Canada with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the NBP also offers a voluntary, EMS-based certification program that requires participating organizations to go beyond regulatory requirements.

"WEF and the NBP remains committed to meeting the needs of biosolids management organizations and professionals," said NBP Steering Committee Chair Dick Lanyon. "The newly designed Web site reflects a commitment to continuous improvement in our services, and provides an easy to use tool for accessing information on NBP programs as well as best management and technical practices."

Devoted exclusively to the NBP, the revised Web site provides information on all aspects of biosolids management, including the NBP's rigorous EMS-based certification program. As described on the site, the Partnership's Biosolids Management (EMS) Program is being expanded to provide two program options for public and private organizations that utilize best practices to manage biosolids in a manner that is environmentally sound and protective of public health. The NBP encourages all biosolids management organizations—small, medium and large—and whatever biosolids treatment and management option is used to participate in the program.

Designed to meet the needs of all visitors, the Web site also features a clearer navigation scheme, local and national biosolids contacts, and a more robust search engine with an advanced search function. In addition to the resources within the NBP site, visitors will also have easy access to WEF's online library of biosolids resources, Access Water Knowledge: Biosolids.

As an added service enhancement, the NBP has also redesigned its popular electronic newsletter. Consistent with the new look of the Web site, the revised newsletter will now be released on a bi-weekly basis and will continue to provide current program-related news and information, reminders of upcoming events, and a link to the newly created Biosolids News Center, featuring the latest in biosolids-related headlines from across the nation. The revised newsletter is expected to launch in September.
