AWWA Webcast To Focus On Pump Maintenance

Denver, CO — AWWA is offering its Pump Maintenance webcast August 6, a review of pump operations and maintenance issues. The webcast will examine the individual components of a pump and discuss the maintenance requirements for each, the effect of pump operation on pump performance, and methods for monitoring pump conditions. Some of the specific topics include installation and maintenance of bearings, packing and mechanical seals, pump and motor shaft alignment, valve sequencing, and cavitation.
The three presenters are
- James M. Brady, chief of load control for the Philadelphia Water Department;
- Christopher M. Bollig, project manager with Kimley-Horn and Associates; and
- Bertin J. Morales, manager of the city of Phoenix water distribution remote facilities section.
Brady has 34 years of experience in the maintenance and operation of pumping stations and water distribution systems. He began his career as a meter repairman and pump mechanic and later served as a maintenance supervisor and hydraulic engineer. A registered PE, Brady is a member of the AWWA Distribution Operation and Maintenance Committee.
Bollig, also a registered PE, has more than five years experience in the design of water supply and distribution facilities, water system modeling, and construction management. He is the vice chair of the AWWA Water Supply and Distribution System Design Committee.
Morales has more than 20 years of water industry experience, including eight years of management and supervisory experience with the Phoenix Water Services Department. He is responsible for the operation, expansion, repair, and maintenance of all 400 remote sites throughout the city's water distribution system.
The 1½-hour training event will start at 1 p.m. Eastern time.
