Aqua Enviro Technology Transfer

sallywright@aquaenviro.co.uk

3 day conference and exhibition organised by Aqua Enviro specialists in the wastewater sector. This annual 3 day event is now in its 15th year attracts delegates from all over the world to hear interesting and expereinced speakers who are respected and well known within the world of sludge! Despite the high costs of treating and recycling biosolids with its associated energy use and GHG emissions, the process is not yet fully optimised and there is still some way to go before the process meets the efficiencies and performance associated with treating the liquid influent. The many unit operations that make up the flow train of a typical sludge handling process are all inter-related. For instance a poor performance by the sludge thickeners will have a knock on effect in the performance of the digesters, which in turn will affect the CHP system and sludge dewatering. In the current climate biosolids are considered a resource with the potential to recover energy in the form of methane, nutrients as struvite and compost as an end-product. Resource recovery can also be enhanced by importation of other wastes for co-digestion. It is crucial therefore that there is a full understanding of all the individual solids handling processes and with operating strategies to ensure they are all optimised. It is hoped that this theme can be explored in this year’s conference and so we are keen to invite contributions on best practice in the operation and optimisation of sludge handling processes.
