Once again potential Authors have the opportunity to submit Abstracts for presentation on topics of interest to the biosolids and organic resources community. We are particularly keen to encourage submissions from younger practitioners and those new to the biosolids arena and thus have made the submission process as simple as possible. It is difficult now to avoid the subject of climate change and the burgeoning carbon economy that is associated with our efforts to ameliorate our present use of carbon based resources. In many ways this is good news for those who deal with any organic resource as the basic unit of any organic resource is carbon. The trick is therefore to ensure that any energy associated with the oxidation of this carbon to carbon dioxide, is recovered before final disposal, in this way our organic resource becomes a source of renewable energy. Consequently the theme of this year’s event is reducing carbon emissions through more efficient use of biosolids and organic resources. The water industry has a lot of expertise in carbon recovery from solid waste with a wide range of technologies for enhancing energy yields whereas the solid waste industry is currently going through a rapid learning process in this area.
