Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department Receives $5.7M In State Grant Funding For Water Reuse Projects

Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) has been awarded $5.7M in grant funding from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) for two transformational water reuse projects. The Alternative Water Supply program awarded a total of $60,000,000 statewide.

PBCWUD received $2.7M towards its south Palm Beach County-area reclaimed water pipeline project. A grant of $3M was awarded to the Green Cay Wetlands Surficial Aquifer System, a critical component of the Green Cay Phase II project, which includes the Reclamation Education & Center for Advanced Purification (RECAP) and a public park, both slated to open in late 2026.

In early April, construction began on the project, the first of its kind in Florida to implement state-of-the-art reuse technology to produce purified water to potable standards. The project will recharge groundwater supplies to meet future demands as the county's population continues to grow, while the RECAP center will educate visitors of all ages on the importance of protecting our water resources now, and for future generations.
