Innovations In Clarifiers Increase Capacity While Improving Water Quality

Seasonal changes and weather events can alter the composition of source water. These shifts can increase the presence of suspended solids, organics, and problematic metals/compounds such as iron, manganese, arsenic, and calcium carbonate that impact treatment performance. The water treatment plant (WTP) must produce drinking water meeting strict regulatory standards 24/7. The clarifier is one of the most important unit processes in the treatment scheme.

Most clarifiers, including lamella plate and tube clarifiers, have trouble coping with ever-changing conditions. Even worse, traditional inclined plate and tube settlers often require regular cleaning and maintenance. This could result in reduced performance and additional problems such as increased turbidity and reduced throughput in the WTP.

To address these challenges and more that Leopold, a Xylem Company, introduced the Texler clarifiers, which are designed to settle out more turbidity and other substances in order to fully optimize treatment processes, while at the same time reducing costs and increasing capacity.
