AquaNereda Provides The Lowest Total Cost Of Ownership For 10x Capacity Increase And Nutrient Removal Limits

AquaNereda system at Wolcott WWTP
AquaNereda® system at Wolcott WWTP

The Wolcott Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kansas City, KS faced the challenge of increasing its capacity and improving nutrient removal capabilities while dealing with its location in a floodplain. After careful evaluation of various treatment technologies, the plant decided to implement the AquaNereda Aerobic Granular Sludge Technology. This choice was made due to the technology's low capital and operating costs, as well as its small footprint, which resulted in significant cost savings during construction. Additionally, the upgrade allowed the plant to take certain pump stations offline, reducing long-term operational costs.

The AquaNereda system, developed by Aqua-Aerobic Systems, utilizes aerobic granular sludge in wastewater treatment. These granules are formed into a specific shape through hydraulic and biological selection mechanisms. This unique feature allows for simultaneous nitrification/denitrification and phosphorus removal. The system operates in optimized cycles with three phases: fill/draw, react, and solids separation.
