WWEMA/Boenning Leading Demand Index Continues Upward March In 1q Setting Stage For Positive Growth In 2017

The Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA) and Boenning & Scattergood Inc. have released the 2017 1Q WWEMA/Boenning Leading Demand Index, formulated to provide insight into market and funding conditions related to water and wastewater projects. The Index rose slightly in the first quarter as key forward-looking indicators continue to point toward an acceleration in demand for water and wastewater equipment. According to the report’s author, Boenning & Scattergood Managing Director Ryan Connors, while there are uncertainties, the data indicate an encouraging demand prognosis for manufacturers selling into the water and wastewater industry in 2017.

A review of the market and some key factors that make up the Index indicate that municipal utilities continue to expand their payrolls, water and wastewater equipment demand continues to improve, water stocks continued to gain in the first quarter and have risen for nine consecutive months, ductile iron pipe prices accelerated their recent gains in the first quarter, and home prices have begun to accelerate suggesting that homebuilding will gather momentum going forward.

The full report includes charts relating to these factors, depicting data and trends dating back three to five years, as well as additional background and analysis. It is available exclusively to WWEMA members. For more information, visit www.wwema.org.
