Prior to 2014, the City of Edina selected portions of the pipe network for replacement based on network age and repair history. Edina proactively searched for solutions that would lead to a more targeted pipe replacement program and support coordination with other infrastructure investments like road reconstruction.
This webinar outlines how Edina selected and procured an appropriate condition assessment tool. Following technology selection, Edina developed a protocol to translate remaining pipe wall thickness measurements into pipe replacement plans. Edina’s experience is presented as a case study including the payback on investments in pipe condition assessment, the proportion of allocated pipe replacement funds that could be redirected, how Edina integrated condition data into its condition assessment process, lessons learned, and next steps.
