WaterStart Renews Knowledge Fund From Nevada Governor's Office Of Economic Development

Funding will support water innovation efforts for additional two years

WaterStart, an incubator housed within the Desert Research Institute, recently renewed funding from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) Knowledge Fund, that will continue to support its work in providing water innovation resources and services for an additional two years.

“This renewal of funds reflects the confidence of the state and our partners in WaterStart and our process,” said WaterStart Executive Director Nathan Allen. “We have made a lot of progress in the last two years working with the state’s largest water agencies and consumers to cultivate a globally recognized innovation ecosystem here in Nevada.”

Since receiving funding from GOED in 2015, WaterStart and its partners have evaluated more than 250 water technologies, received proposals from 180 tech companies and recruited 11 tech companies to the state. Furthermore, it has jointly funded through the Commercialization Fund with roughly $1.2M in pilot projects with its partners.

The Nevada State Legislature created the Knowledge Fund in 2011 as part of the plan to revamp economic development and reauthorized its funding in 2017. To learn more about the Knowledge Fund, visit diversifynevada.com.
