Water Environment Research Foundation Launches Study To Identify Barriers And Solutions To Energy Efficiency And Resource Recovery

The Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) is expanding research efforts into energy efficiency at water resource recovery facilities (WRRFs). Brown and Caldwell will lead work on this latest energy project entitled Identification of Barriers to Energy Efficiency and Resource Recovery at WRRFs and Solutions to Promote These Practices (ENER7C13).

The objectives of this study are to:

• Identify barriers to energy efficiency and resource recovery at WRRFs.
• Identify solutions to address challenges.
• Assess the effect of state legislation, public utility commissions, and power companies on energy efficiency and energy recovery.
• Evaluate the current energy position of the publicly owned WRRFs in New York State.
• Share case studies which focus on utility attributes related to energy efficiency, energy recovery, energy generation, and materials recovery.
• Identify the areas or technologies that are of greater interest to researchers for energy efficiency and resource recovery.

The Water Environment Research Foundation is collaborating with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to co-fund this research.
