Water Challenges And Opportunities Focal Points Of 2017 NAWC Water Summit

This week, private water industry leaders from across the country gathered in Seattle, Washington, for the 2017 NAWC Water Summit. This year’s Summit programming included addressing water infrastructure needs, rate regulation, use of drone technology, and economic and geopolitical trends.

“NAWC is pleased to bring together water industry professionals to discuss the critical issues facing the water sector, as well as some of the opportunities within our industry,” said Michael Deane, NAWC’s executive director. “The NAWC Water Summit serves as a place for private- and public-sector professionals, regulators and industry leaders to share innovative ideas, learn from one another and share solutions that sustain our businesses and communities.”

Each year, the NAWC Water Summit provides a dynamic forum for water industry professionals, public officials and other key stakeholders. This year’s keynote speakers were economist Bernard Baumohl and Carol Pottenger, a retired U.S. Navy vice admiral.

As Chief Global Economist for the Economic Outlook Group, Bernard Baumohl is a renowned expert in assessing the direction of the U.S. and world economy. Previously, Baumohl was an award-winning economics reporter with TIME magazine who covered the White House, Federal Reserve and Wall Street. He is a recipient of the John Hancock Award for Excellence in Financial Journalism, and is a member of the National Association for Business Economics and the American Economic Association. He delivered the 2017 NAWC Water Summit’s Monday, October 16, keynote address discussing the opportunities and risks ahead for water infrastructure investment.

Vice Admiral Carol Pottenger, USN (ret.), was among the first women to be assigned to serve at sea in 1978. She was the first female Navy Admiral to command a strike group. She delivered the 2017 NAWC Water Summit’s keynote address on Tuesday, October 17, assessing global threats and the implications for infrastructure companies.

We are always eager to gather the leaders of our industry together to share innovative, collaborative ways to overcome our nation’s water challenges,” Deane said.
