  • National Steering Committee Joins More than 350 Affiliates Around the Country;
  • Simultaneous Kick Off Events on May 14 to be Held in Washington, DC and Los Angeles

In its sixth year, Infrastructure Week is poised to have its biggest year yet. Infrastructure Week 2018 will kick off with simultaneous events at Washington, DC's and Los Angeles' Union Stations on Monday, May 14. Featured speakers at the kickoff events include Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao, U.S. Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Donohue, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, author and investor DJ Vance, and business, labor and elected leaders from across America.

Infrastructure Week (May 14-21) will feature more than 100 events in Washington, DC and across the country. More than 350 affiliate organizations will host forums, tour infrastructure projects, and amplify the message that we can't afford to keep waiting to rebuild and modernize our nation's roads, bridges, airports, seaports, water systems, power grid, and more. The calendar of public events is on Infrastructure Week's website, with more being added to the calendar daily.

Infrastructure Week is led by an esteemed steering committee of the AFL-CIO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Americans Society of Civil Engineers, Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program, Building America's Future, Business Roundtable, National Association of Manufacturers, and Value of Water Campaign. Infrastructure Week calls on business, labor and elected officials at the local, state, and federal level to highlight their accomplishments, but also to step up and prioritize investment in infrastructure.

"We are so thankful that Infrastructure Week is highlighting solutions to address our nation's aging and failing water infrastructure. We may come from different walks of life, but we all agree that rebuilding our water infrastructure is a priority. Our latest poll found steadfast bipartisan support for water infrastructure. Water is one of the most powerful conveners of diverse interests, and our elected officials and those campaigning this year would do well to listen and act on infrastructure" says Radhika Fox, Director of the Value of Water Campaign and CEO of the US Water Alliance.

"We are proud that over the past six years, Infrastructure Week has grown to be such an inclusive and dynamic week of education and advocacy. Infrastructure Week 2018 will bring leaders and communities together, offer opportunities to see some fascinating infrastructure assets that aren't always accessible to the public, and amplify the very real importance of infrastructure investment to the businesses, workers, and families who depend on it every day," said Zach Schafer, Executive Director of Infrastructure Week.

Schafer continued, "Americans are calling on our leaders to take action, so we can have the modern, safe, fast, reliable infrastructure this nation deserves. Despite some progress, especially at the local level, our current policies and investments are eclipsed by the overall need. While we wait, repairs get more expensive, we lose time and productivity, and we cede our competitive edge to other nations that are prioritizing infrastructure. Our message this year is that we can't wait any longer - now it's time to build."
