Rotherham Customers Set For £12M Waste Water Improvements

Yorkshire Water is about to start on a major £12M improvement scheme at its Bolton Upon Dearne Waste water Treatment Works (WwTW), Rotherham.

From the end of November our contract partner, Galliford Try, will start on a 14 months project to construct a brand new inlet works and install a new treatment process. Once finished, the new treatment process will greatly improve the quality of water being released back into the River Dearne, bringing about significant environmental benefits to the area, including helping fish populations.

The site is located to the south east of the town and is located off Mexborough Road via an access track between Riverside Gardens and Garbutt Street. Over the next two weeks, Galliford Try will be setting up a site compound, which will include a number of site cabins and welfare facilities.

Yorkshire Water spokesperson John Bond comments: “This is key project to ensure we further improve river quality in South Yorkshire and bring about significant improvements to the local environment. The site is accessed via a small track and although we’ll do everything we can to minimise disruption, local residents may notice an increase in traffic in the area. We’d ask that people take additional care when driving or crossing roads and assure customers that we’ll keep them updated as the scheme progresses.”

Yorkshire Water treats around 1 billion litres of waste water every day and has over 640 waste water treatment works across the region.
