Newhall County Water District's Commitment To Managing Ratepayer's Money Honored

Newhall County Water District received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the highest award honored by the Government Finance Officers Associations of the United States and Canada (GFOA), for its 2012-13 budget preparation recognizing the District’s financial responsibility to its ratepayers. This win marks the fifth consecutive time NCWD has received the award.

The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.

“It is an honor to be recognized and to accept this award. It has truly been a collaborative effort by all employees involved in this effort, as we continue our commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting” said Karin Russell, Director of Finance/Administration.

In order to receive the award, NCWD had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for an effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, and operations guide and communications device. The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America.  The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
