N-Pumps End Clogging Problems, Improve Efficiency For City In Minnesota

Source: Flygt -- A Xylem Brand

The use of so-called ”disposable” products such as personal care and cleaning wipes caused recurring clogs in the pump impellers at a 1,350-gpm (gallons per minute) lift station operated by the city of Waconia, Minnesota. According to Utilities Maintenance Supervisor Doug Bode, the frequent incidents soon became a problem of both efficiency and cost because the clogging often occurred after normal working hours when outsourced crews were called in at overtime rates.

Working with Electric Pump, Inc., Bode selected two 70-horsepower Flygt N-pumps, supplied by Xylem, Inc., to stop the blockages while maintaining the desired 1,350-gpm flow.
