"Indestructible" Membranes, Mobile Treatment Systems Make Water Recycling Easy

Water reuse technology is quickly becoming the next big thing, says Bob Minella of Layne, a global water management, construction, and drilling company. The oil and gas industry is especially interested in new recycling technologies that can lower water use and costs.

 “We've invested quite a few million dollars in mobile treatment systems in order to be able to take produced water or fracturing flow-back water and create a perfectly clean brine for reuse in future operations,” says Minella.

Membranes are another way to efficiently treat water for reuse.  Layne offers the PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) membrane, which is more durable than similar membranes on the market. It is designed to survive strenuous conditions with high temperatures and chemical levels. 

“It’s virtually indestructible,” says Minella.” A lot of these membranes have been operating over 12 years and there's no damage to them. They are very easy to clean up and put back into service.”
