The program recognizes and honors North American organizations committed to using pumping systems to advance their business and improve the world around them.

The Hydraulic Institute (HI) 2020 Annual Conference concluded with the Gala & Awards Dinner, Thursday, February 27 at the J.W. Marriott Star Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, Arizona. During the Gala, HI presented awards to organizations committed to advancing their business and the world around them. The two categories include:

  • Energy Efficiency – Developed to recognize the company or the organization which, through their pump/system related activities, has made a significant impact on the advancement of Energy Efficiency in North America.
  • Innovation & Technology – Developed to recognize the company or the organization which, through their pump/system related activities, has made a significant impact on the advancement of Energy Efficiency in North America.

The Pump Industry Excellence Award for Energy Efficiency was bestowed to Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) specifically for their Commercial and Industrial Pump System Initiative which was approved by the CEE Board last month. CEE’s role is not to implement energy efficiency programs on a local level, but rather to provide a platform for energy efficiency program administrators across the US and Canada, who are entrusted with investing public dollars for public purposes, to maximize the impact of efficiency programs.

Because of CEE’s reach - CEE members allocate nearly $6.5B annually in efficiency and demand-side management expenditures in the US and Canada. The market strategy that CEE just approved has the potential to accelerate the transformation of our market to high-efficient pumps and pumping systems and to save owners tens of millions of dollars in electricity costs, all while providing better user experiences. The award was sponsored by HI member company, TACO Comfort Solutions, Inc.

The Pump Industry Excellence Award for Innovation & Technology was presented to Atlantica, a total return sustainable infrastructure company that owns and manages a diversified portfolio of contracted assets in the power and environment sectors.

Atlantica set up an Advanced Analytics group for Machine Learning and Predictive Maintenance, with people from IT, Operations and Data Science departments. Their task was to reduce operational risk and increased plant efficiency and uptime at three solar plants. The 280 MW Mojave Solar Power Complex, located 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles, can generate clean electricity to power approximately 90,000 households in California, preventing the emission of up to 350,000 tons of CO2 annually.

This award is in recognition of Atlantica’s leadership in driving digital innovation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and anomaly detection for data-driven decision support and predictive maintenance of critical equipment. This award was sponsored by HI member company, SULZER.
