HDR's Dan Sampson Wins Best Overall Paper Award At International Water Conference

Dan Sampson, principal technical consultant for HDR, won the inaugural Best Overall Paper Award at the International Water Conference. The award was presented in Scottsdale, Arizona, during the recent annual conference.

Sampson’s paper, titled “A Rock and a Hard Place – Managing use of Ammonia-laden Recycled Water,” provides vendor-neutral information to assist power plants receiving water high in ammonia. His research studied two power plants in the western United States which receive recycled water from the same supplier. Sampson examined historical microbial control at the two cooling towers, and several oxidizing and non-oxidizing microbial control chemistries, and evaluated the options’ technical elements and costs. He presented the paper at least year’s International Water Conference, which led to his award.

The Best Overall Paper Award is presented to the author of the paper at the previous year’s conference which best exemplifies the goal of clearly communicating new information or a new understanding about a significant aspect of water use or water chemistry, or best enhances the knowledge that enables effective utilization of water in industry or another use that benefits humanity.

Sampson’s paper is available for purchase on the International Water Conference website (https://eswp.com/water/awards/).
