Evoqua Water Technologies (Evoqua), recently announced it has been awarded a contract by the City of Los Angeles, Calif., Department of Public Works for Los Angeles Sanitation (www.lacitysan.org) to supply its microfiltration packaged system as part of the second-phase expansion of the Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant Advanced Water Treatment Facility in San Pedro, Los Angeles County, one of the major operations in the country. Groundbreaking on the second-phase expansion was held today, the 45th anniversary of Earth Day.  Evoqua is the global leader in helping municipalities and industrial customers protect and improve the world’s most fundamental natural resource – water.

The Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant Advanced Water Treatment Facility purifies tertiary effluent to produce purified water for indirect potable reuse applications which is especially important in the face of the ongoing California-wide drought.  Terminal Island is the third Los Angeles water reclamation plant to produce reclaimed water for indirect potable reuse and one of the few plants in the country that produces water using full advanced treatment. This exceptional quality water will soon be used as a potable water replacement in Los Angeles Harbor-area industrial applications and as a barrier against seawater intrusion.

Evoqua will supply its more than 100 years of water solutions expertise as well as its Memcor CP System utilizing next-generation hollow fiber membrane technology that allows operators more flexibility and simplified cleaning procedures, saving the Bureau of Sanitation capital on cleaning material costs every year.

“We have partnered with the City of Los Angeles for decades and we are honored to have been selected to be a part of this vital expansion,” said Ron Keating, Evoqua Water Technologies Chief Executive Officer.  “We look forward to continuing our work with the City of Los Angeles to help address water needs in the region.”

The new Terminal Island Expansion is expected to add approximately eight million gallons/day of filtrate capacity – as pretreatment to the reverse osmosis and advanced oxidation process step.

Memcor products have become an industry leader in the global water and wastewater treatment markets, with microfiltration and ultrafiltration solutions for drinking water, water reuse, wastewater, desalination pretreatment, and industrial process water. The products are in use in thousands of industrial and municipal plants. For more information, visit www.evoqua.com/memcor.
