Amherstburg and LaSalle, Ontario
The Towns of Amherstburg and LaSalle are small towns in Ontario, Canada, on the Detroit River. The Wastewater facilities are operated by the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) and consist of two Water, and two Wastewater Treatment Plants, along with 39 Sewage Pumping Stations.
Problem: The Towns wanted a lightweight, portable lifting device for the Pumping Stations that was economical, easily used and set up, as well as being safe for the Maintenance Staff to use in all weather conditions. Maintenance Staff wanted to eliminate the heavy, poor-quality davits provided by the pump manufacturer.
Solution: eme Staff spent two days surveying the different Pumping Stations and determining the needs of the Maintenance Staff.
eme recommended the purchase of three 1100CH (500 kg) DAVITS and one 2200CH (1000 kg) DAVIT, along with one Electric Chain Hoist and Grip Eye for each DAVIT unit. eme also recommended 34 Top (End) Mount Sockets which were compatible with the 1100CH DAVIT and two which were compatible with the 2200CH DAVIT.
The Bases (Sockets) were installed at the appropriate locations around the Pumping Stations and now, when a Pumping Station Upgrade is completed, the Towns simply add an additional Base.
Due to the variety of weather conditions, the 42" Sockets would be easily found in bad weather.
Comment: Although the 1100CH is capable of lifting 1,100 lbs., the DAVIT weighs only 31 lbs. – definitely an Operator-friendly Lifting Device; as well, the 2200CH is capable of lifting 2,200 lbs but the DAVIT weighs only 51 lbs.
