Cost-Effective Flash Flood Warning System To Provide Early Alerts

Taipei, Taiwan — Flash floods are occurring in ever-increasing frequencies all over the world. According to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), flash floods are caused by heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time, generally less than 6 hours. They can occur within minutes or a few hours of excessive rainfall. With its usual occurrence at night, the flash flood generally causes serious damages in the urban areas.

Innovated and developed by TWSI (Taiwan Water & Soil Instrumentation, Inc., a leading and prestigious instrumentation lab in Taiwan), the "Local Early Warning System for Flash Flood" is meant to satisfy this urgent need. It alerts with a buzzer at multiple, easy-to-set warning thresholds, allowing for people to take timely preventive measures. Via the input(s) from a remote or on-site tipping bucket rain gauge and an optional float-driven level transmitter, its smart, easy-to-read 25mm character in height LED panel gathers and simultaneously tabulates multiple, dynamic rainfall intensities, for disaster forecasting purposes, as well as multiple, dynamic water levels, for demonstrating there real-time water rising status at a designated site. Moreover, it is equipped with smart power-saving and built-in backup batteries, allowing it to provide the 24-hour-strong warning capability during any possible power failure. An optional GSM modem is also available for the SMS (Short Message Service) application.
