CA-NV Section AWWA Partners To Offer Free Chromium 6 Workshops

In anticipation of California’s pending drinking water standard for hexavalent chromium [also known as chromium 6 or Cr(VI)], the CA-NV Section of the American Water Works Association (CA-NV AWWA), Hazen and Sawyer and the City of Glendale, CA are partnering to offer a free webinar and in-person seminars on the treatment technologies for Cr(VI) removal. For nearly a decade, the City of Glendale has been managing a major research effort on identifying technologies for removal of Cr(VI) from drinking water. Results of this research technical evaluations, cost, and compliance strategies will be discussed at length during the webinar and at each seminar. “This is an incredible opportunity for water system managers, engineers, and operators to learn about the upcoming Cr(VI) regulation, examine real-world solutions and ask questions at no cost to their utility,” said Tim Worley, Executive Director, CA-NV AWWA. Nicole Blute is a Senior Associate with Hazen and Sawyer Environmental Engineers in Los Angeles. She is the Principal Investigator for the City of Glendale’s $9M research program on chromium treatment technologies, including planning, oversight of design, and optimization of two operating facilities serving water to the public.

As an engineer and Vice President of Hazen and Sawyer, Lynn Grijalva has involved the public in planning and design of water projects. Examples of her work include public taste tests and presentations on the quality of groundwater and treatment process effectiveness.

Ramon Z. Abueg, Chief Assistant General Manager of Water and Power. Mr. Abueg has been with the Department for over 10 years. Mr. Abueg is responsible for the day-to-day administration and management and operations of the Electric and Water Systems.

Timothy (Tim) Worley, PhD, is Executive Director of the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), a position he has held since 2011.
