Vancouver, BC--(Marketwire) - BioteQ Environmental Technologies Inc. (TSX:BQE), a leader in the treatment of industrial wastewater, has been awarded the Syncrude Award for Excellence in Sustainable Development by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). BioteQ's Chief Executive Officer, Brad Marchant accepted the award at a gala dinner event in Vancouver on Monday, May 10.

The Syncrude Award for Excellence in Sustainable Development recognizes activities that promote the principles of sustainability, balancing environmental, economic and social impacts in the Canadian minerals industry. BioteQ has been recognized for its innovative water treatment technologies that remove and recycle dissolved metals from contaminated water, producing clean water while recovering valuable metals that were once discarded as waste. The process enables mining firms to comply with strict regulations for water quality, reduce or eliminate the environmental liability associated with metal contaminated sludge, and increase resource recovery while enhancing the environment. In the past five years, BioteQ has treated more than 28 billion liters of industrial wastewater, and removed close to 8.5 million pounds of metal contaminants from the environment.

In addition to metal recovery technologies, BioteQ has developed a new ion exchange process to remove sulphate and total dissolved solids from wastewater, which the company is applying in the mining, oil sands, and power generation industries.

"We presented BioteQ with this award in recognition for the company's innovative technologies that solve challenging water treatment problems and convert wastewater into a useful resource," said Jean Vavrek, Executive Director of CIM. "BioteQ's solutions add considerable value to the minerals industry's sustainable management practices, and have a positive effect on organizations within the mining and metallurgy industry, oil sands, and power generation sectors. It is the existence of solutions like these, and how we make the public aware of them, that will result in a better reputation for the sector and create a much more positive perception about the way our sector handles critical environmental issues."
