AvN Technology Accepted Into LIFT Technology Scans

World Water Works’ technology selected by Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (WE&RF)

Oklahoma City — World Water Works’ AvN™ technology has recently been accepted into WE&RF’s - LIFT (Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology) Technology Scans program. This program offers wastewater treatment technology providers an opportunity to introduce emerging commercialized water technologies.

AvN, AOB vs. NOB, is an aeration control technology that is capable of achieving the lowest possible effluent total nitrogen at the lowest possible energy input. By controlling the aerobic fraction and solids retention time (SRT) within the system, the process is capable of optimizing existing facilities and provides a critical stepping stone to energy self sufficient wastewater treatment. The process utilizes advanced control algorithms that allows for treatment flexibility and the redirection of carbon to energy generating unit operations.

AvN provides a proper and measured control strategy for maintaining high ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) oxidation rates while achieving nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) repression needed for mainstream deammonification/short cut nitrogen removal. The successful repression of nitrite oxidation by control of the NOB population saves 25 percent oxygen and 40 percent organic carbon compared to conventional nitrification and denitrification.

“World Water Works is excited for the future of this innovative technology and we are honored to be part of LIFT,” said Daniel Dair, vice president of innovation at World Water Works. “This technology was developed in a collaborative effort lead by DC Water and partners and can be retrofitted to most plants with minor infrastructure changes. World Water Works, along with our partners, strives to enhance profitability through innovative water treatment technologies.”

LIFT Technology Scans has engaged more than 350 water facility owners to introduce new and innovative technologies. Once identified, the wastewater treatment technology provider is invited to present to the appropriate LIFT audience to garner interest. During this process, WE&RF assists in developing and managing peer-reviewed technology evaluations.

A World Water Works representative will be presenting the AvN technology during the nutrients portion of the 2017 LIFT Webinar Series on April 18, 2017.  A portion of proceeds from the sales of AvN goes toward funding further nonprofit research in wastewater.
