elimi-NITE® DENITRIFICATION SYSTEMThe elimi-NITE® Denitrification System utilizes the advantages of
deep-bed, mono-media filters to effectively and efficiently remove
nitrogen in wastewater effluent. In addition to nitrogen, an elimi-
NITE denitrification system can simultaneously remove
suspended solids.
The gravity, downflow,
packed-bed, denitrification
system is an attached growth,
microbiological process which
removes nitrate-nitrogen,
achieving levels below 1
mg/liter. Physically, it is identical
to a deep-bed, downflow sand
filter utilizing Leopold Type S® underdrains and media.
The outstanding performance of this downflow, packed-bed
system eliminates the need for downstream filtration or
clarification required of other denitrification systems.
ITT Leopold also provides all the components, including the
controls, for a complete denitrification system and takes the
responsibility for the successful integration of the filter, including
filter operation and performance, to meet each plant's specific

EnviroStream™ Stormwater Treatment Systems offers an efficient
and compact system that is simple, easy to install, and works
even better than traditional hydrodynamic separators.
Considered a Best Management Practice, EnviroStream can be
installed in almost any new or preexisting catch basin to filter the
stormwater as it enters the sewer.
The full unit consists of a two-stage
catch basin collection process: first,
a large debris basket collects litter
and leaves; then, a fine-filtration
assembly captures salt, oil, and
grease. Because these finer
pollutants permanently attach to the
filtration medium, they cannot leach
back into stormwater channels.
EnviroStream filters up to 98% of
inorganic solids, virtually eliminating
trash and hydrocarbons, and can be
customized to meet your sitespecific
requirements. The system drains completely dry to
prevent dangerous bacterial and mosquito breeding grounds.
Maintenance is easy — no specially trained personnel or costly
equipment is required.

NEW! Check Magmeter Performance And Calibration
While Still In Operation
ABB's advanced CalMaster 2
Suite of electromagnetic
flowmeter test instruments are
designed for the water and
wastewater municipal markets.
The suite comprises two standalone
electronic test instruments:
the CalMaster 2 verification tool
and the CheckMaster validation
tool.
The CalMaster 2 tool verifies
calibration to within ±1% while
the magmeter remains in operation. It compares test parameters
to the meter's original "fingerprint," first determined at the factory
following manufacture (and stored in the transmitter). The 15-
minute test covers the primary sensor, transmitter, and connected
shielded cable, offering traceability to NIST calibration with a
printed certificate.
The second instrument in the CalMaster 2 Suite is the
CheckMaster unit, which is virtually identical in appearance to the
CalMaster 2 tool. This instrument, primarily for new installations,
is useful for contractors or large municipal users to provide
printed proof that the tested flowmeter components have all been
installed and connected properly.

Output Flow Measurement From Lift Station Pumps
The Promag W electromagnetic flowmeter is an ideal addition for
measuring output flow from lift station pumps. The Promag has a
spool piece design to allow unobstructed flow even when high
levels of debris and grease are present. Its high impedance
amplifier eliminates problems typically associated with electrode
fouling. Promag flowmeters can be used in a variety of
installations for both waste and fresh water: a wide variety of liner
options and electronic outputs are available to suit the exact
application.

The new line of "fourth generation" sonar
transducers for improved sensing of
interface levels in tailings, paste,
concentrator and Lamella thickeners, and
settling tanks. The new sensors offer big
improvements in overall power, penetration,
and calibration density range. They provide
better capability under high suspended
solids loading, ‘sliming', and generally
upset process conditions.
In municipal water plants, it is necessary
to monitor floc blanket levels for clarity,
sludge buildup, and sedimentation. Sonar
sensors may be used to locate and track
layers of differing density within a process tank. Various sensors
have been tried in this demanding environment, but none have
proved accurate or reliable enough for use in control strategies.
The new transducer includes three to seven sonar crystals
mounted in a single head. It has an integrated self-cleaning
system that offers an accurate, "real-time" output representing
the behavior of a density interface.

TITAN MBR™ System
TITAN MBR™ marries the
wastewater treatment
engineering expertise of
Smith & Loveless with S&L
Flat-Plate Membranes.
Submerged in the aeration
section of the TITAN MBR™
tank, the S&L Flat-Plate
Membrane maintains high
permeability and flux rates,
even at peak day rates. Because the system employs air scouring
to prevent fouling, it does not require backpulsing, or the
associated equipment and chemical costs typical of other
systems. S&L Flat-Plate Membranes experience less wear and
tear than hollow-fiber types and can easily be cleaned in place.
TITAN MBR™ systems come in standard and custom designs,
and result in smaller footprints than conventional systems. Flow
capacities for the TITAN MBR™ systems range from 5,000 GPD all
the way to 3 MGD and larger. The system will meet effluent
requirements of less than 3 mg/l BOD, 1 mg/l TSS, 2 mg/l TKN,
and 1 mg/l NH3.

Force Balanced FLEX-TEND® Flexible Expansion Joints
Flexible expansion joints protect
pipelines from seismic events
and gradual soil subsidence.
However, under pressure they
generate an axial imparting
force, and it is costly in
municipal settings to engineer
and build restraint systems that
isolate these imparting thrusts
without interfering with the original purpose.
The Force Balanced FLEX-TEND® Flexible Expansion Joint
can accommodate pressure-induced thrust forces. It utilizes an
additional water chamber piston that acts in the equal and
opposite direction of the imparting thrust and neutralizes the
thrust forces. This allows designers to use flexible expansion
joints in applications where bulky, cumbersome thrust blocks, or
other force-restricting devices, are not applicable. Force
Balanced FLEX-TEND also protects pipelines that serve
structures, so owners know their pipelines are protected from
shear.
Municipalities are also experiencing the problem of congestion
of buried utilities, but Force Balanced FLEX-TEND protects
pipelines from movement, and does so with a smaller, less
expensive footprint.

IPEC started in 1979 as a company offering assistance to industry
on the selection of cost-efficient methods of air and wastewater
treatment.
Since 1982, IPEC has designed and built solid/liquid
separation devices. IPEC manufactures an extensive line of
primary effluent fine screens, scum screens, dewatering
conveyors, sludge thickeners, washer/compactors, and bagging
equipment. The IFM meets the needs
of wastewater managers in
preventing trash and
inorganic solids from
entering their bioreactors.
The fine separation capability
of this unit makes it ideally
suited to protect downstream
equipment by removing
those irregularly shaped solids that work their way through
downstream processes. Even though this unit deals with the
nastiest of contaminants, the IFM performs as a clean and
trouble-free operation. The addition of the IPEC PLT, a solids
washer and compactor, leaves only fecal-free and odor-free solids
for disposal.
The IFM, as well as other IPEC equipment, will be on display at

Shactivate Septic Digester
Shactivate Septic Digester is a liquefied, oxidized lignite product
that reduces odors, gases, and organic solids, and improves
effluent quality in wastewater collection and treatment systems.
The product has been designed for use in municipal sewage
lagoon systems, and is also effective in the treatment of
restaurant grease traps, residential septic systems, and
RV/outdoor/portable toilets.
Shactivate stimulates resident microbial communities present
in septic/sewage treatment systems and reduces contaminant
interference. This provides optimal conditions for the
decomposition of organic material, and results in the significant
reduction of organic accumulations/sludge, as well as a reduction
in time and expenses related to system maintenance (e.g.
dredging, pumping, disposal). Shactivate is environmentally
