How SEAD Works
A SEAD reactor utilizes one or more of Biothane's shear nozzels at the top of the reactor which circulate the reactor contents downward through the draft tubes. The shear nozzel has several important functions.
- Breaks up and disperses biomass and substrate solids
- Creates intimate contact between substrate and biomass
- Accelerates solids reduction
- Induces reactor circulation that is an order of magnitude greater than the external
- Circulation flow
Advantages
When compared to conventional sludge digestion systems such as high-rate and egg-shaped digesters, SEAD has many significant competitive advantages.
- Lower-Hydraulic Retention Time
- Superior Mixing Capability
- Elimination of Dead Zones
- Higher Loading rate
- Accelerated Volatile Solids Destruction
- Smaller overall Footprint of Reactor
- Smaller Capital Costs
Capabilities
- SEAD technologies can effectively treat influent anywhere from 0.5% to 6% total solids.
- SEAD is effective in the digestion of solids from activated sludge systems, such as
- Municipal sewage treatment facilities.
- SEAD can also be utilized in anaerobic, industrial applications to digest gradable waste solids or byproducts from the processing plant
