Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane Analytical Testing
Brochure: Membrane CareSM Program
Siemens Water Technologies owns and operates a state-of-the-art analytical testing laboratory. We offer various analytical tests including feedwater and outlet water analyses and destructive/non-destructive membrane testing designed to help evaluate system performance and improve productivity.
Siemens operates a Membrane Center of Excellence in Rockford, Illinois. This center is dedicated to providing our customers with support for their membrane systems - from the largest inventory of stocked membranes through a comprehensive list of support services including membrane autopsies and membrane cleaning.
Our Membrane Care ProgramSM is a comprehensive program designed to maximize your membrane system investment. The program includes recommended services which help keep reverse osmosis (RO) systems operating at peak performance and extended the effective operational life of those membranes.
Part of our service offering includes laboratory analytical services - from inlet and outlet water analysis, to membrane autopsies and other destructive and non-destructive tests. Membrane analysis assists in identifying fouling agent(s), proper cleaning techniques and proper pretreatment methods to prevent reoccurring fouling.
Non-Destructive Tests:
- External visual exam
- Bubble test- test physical integrity of the membrane envelope
- Membrane performance - flux, pressure and percent reject
- Analysis of cleaning solution
Destructive Tests:
- Internal visual exam
- Coupon testing of membrane surface
- Dye testing
- Metals analyses
- Digestion -ICP
- SEM EDX
Organic Analyses:
- FTIR Spectroscopy
- HPLC-FTIR and /or UV Spectroscopy
- Organic vs. inorganic foulants
- Chlorine oxidation of polyamide elements
Features and Benefits
- Improves performance of the RO system
- Extends membrane life through diagnosis of fouling agents, proper cleaning techniques to eliminate reoccuring fouling.
