Anaerobic MBR technology opens the door to the treatment of high-strength waste streams previously considered economically untreatable through traditional anaerobic processes alone. Biothane's Anaerobic MBR technology maximizes COD and TSS removal, eliminating disposal costs while generating methane-rich biogas for even greater energy savings, all without the drawbacks inherent to energy-intensive aerobic systems.

Waste streams are first treated anaerobically, then pass through a series of Norit Crossflow ultrafiltration membranes which separate suspended particles from clean water (permeate). This permeate, now with greatly reduced COD ( > 99% removal ) and nearly zero TSS, becomes the final effluent from your Biothane system.

Disposal costs are minimized or eliminated due to the reduction in COD and TSS. Unlike energy-intensive aerobic systems, Biothane's anaerobic process converts the biogas it generates to energy for even greater cost savings.

Biosolids remain at a near-constant level within a Biothane AnMBR system; membranes guarantee zero biosolid loss, while the benefits of anaerobic technology keep biosolid production to a minimum. A Biothane AnMBR vastly reduces the enormous biosolid disposal costs inherent to an aerobic treatment step.

Biothane has made a firm commitment to Anaerobic MBR technology. We own and fully design our AnMBR process in-house, guaranteeing future service and support to our customers as we have for more than thirty years. Biothane also has on-staff the designer of one of the first full-scale fully-operational design-built AnMBR system in the United States, which has been running smoothly and successfully since 2008.
