Hydrogen Sulfide Removal
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is well known for its characteristic "rotten egg" odor in groundwater. While there are many technologies available to handle groundwater contamination due to hydrogen sulfide, Calgon Carbon Corporation offers a unique solution for hydrogen sulfide removal.

MTBE Removal/Destruction
The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 brought methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) into our gas tanks to help reduce smog in our air. As a result of spills and refilling at pumping stations and leaky underground storage tanks (LUST's), an increase in MTBE contamination of surface water sources and groundwater has been noted. MTBE is considered a potential carcinogen and has been regulated by the EPA for clean-up of contaminated water. MTBE removal from drinking water poses a difficult challenge, but Calgon Carbon has developed Filtrasorb® 600 as a revolutionary activated carbon product optimized for removal of contaminants such as MTBE. Aditionally, Calgon Carbon can provide UV equipment for the oxidative destruction of MTBE.

NDMA Destruction
A component of rocket fuels, NDMA (N-nitrosodimethylamine) is a known carcinogen and a public health problem when present in drinking water. In some areas, NDMA has been found in groundwater, due to its close proximity to sites that had been contaminated with rocket fuel. Calgon Carbon has a proven ultraviolet (UV) solution for NDMA destruction.

Perchlorate Removal and Destruction
Medical studies have shown that when ingested, perchlorate - a key component of explosives, fireworks, matches, and rocket fuels - interferes with normal functioning of the thyroid gland. The compound is stable in groundwater, and is present in a significant number of water sources. Calgon Carbon has developed the first cost-effective solution for perchlorate removal and destruction.
