ABOUT
Aeration is basically increasing the area of contact between water and air. This can happen naturally or done by human activity. Aeration is carried out to achieve one or more of the following: Add oxygen to water; expel harmful gases such as hydrogen sulfide carbon dioxide and nitrogen out of water. It helps reduce levels of harmful metals e.g. manganese and iron. In marine farming it helps support aquatic life e.g. in prawn farming Aeration presents an efficient means of bacteria control, enhanced fish health and growth and low levels of organic sediment and reduced odors as well as elimination of volatile organic compounds from polluted ground water. Oxygen can be driven into the water when the wind disturbs the surface of the pond and natural aeration can occur through movement of water caused by an incoming stream, waterfall, or even a strong flood. Fountains aerate water by pulling water from the surface of the water and propelling it into the air. Paddlewheel aerators churn the water and allow oxygen transfer through air-water contact. In the air diffusion process, air is introduced from blowers through diffusion tubes suspended in a spiral flow tank. Water-Fall Aerators employs a vertical riser that discharges water by free fall into a basin. Water aeration can be applied in the following ways: Pond Aeration, Sewage Treatment, Marine Farming and Aquariums Aeration dates back to late 70s. It was carried in Montbruel and Ferrand's project of 1763-1764 ,in Scotland 1848 by the Gorbals Gravitation Water Co ,In Russia on the River Neva at St. Petersburg and in Elmira, in N.Y. Water Works Company (1861) among other regions.
