ABOUT

Wastewater Pumps

A wastewater pump is a type of pump that primarily moves wastewater toward or within a wastewater treatment facility. These pumps are commonly employed during the management of effluent, sewage and drainage water in homes, military bases, farms, aerospace and defense, construction and industrial setups. Most wastewater pumps operate on the principle of either positive displacement or centrifugal force in the movement of fluids.

Categories of wastewater pumps

Centrifugal pumps - Centrifugal force is applied to produce velocity. Rotating impellers are used to increase velocity thereby pushing fluids via an outlet valve.

Positive displacement – Either Rollers, impellers and/or gears are used to push fluid into a fixed cavity there by creating a vacuum which in turn draws in more fluid. This process repeats itself.

Diaphragm pumps – These kinds of pumps incorporate diaphragm and a chamber.  Suction and discharge check valves are used to prevent backflow.

Cantilever pumps serve to protect the motor and seals from the pumped fluids while circulation pumps are intended to keep media circulating continuously.

Dosing pumps have controllable discharge rates that can be employed to inject chemical additives into mixing or pumping systems.

Fountain pumps supply fluids to fountains, grinder pumps shred solids while macerator pumps empty holding tanks of sewage, and mixing pumps work with drums, tanks, or other containers.

Progressive cavity pumps use pipelines to transfer fluid or media with suspended solids or slurries from the suction side of the pump to the discharge side of the pump.

Other types of wastewater pumps include lift stations, sampling pumps, sump pumps, submersible pumps.

Power sources

Pumps may use power sources such as Alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC), natural gas compressed air, gasoline, diesel fuel, and solar energy. Manually powered pumps rely upon hand or foot power
