ECOfluid Systems Inc, a Burnaby, BC based company, designs, builds and operates wastewater treatment plants. Utilizing its patented Upflow Sludge Blanket Filtration (USBF™) technology, the company provides efficient and economical wastewater treatment solutions for residential, industrial, commercial, municipal and decentralized applications. To date over one hundred installations have been built and are in operation throughout Canada, the United States and the Caribbean.

The underlying strength of the technology is that it uses biological processes, including biological nutrient removal to meet new regulatory restrictions on nitrogen and phosphorus effluent content. The resulting compact bioreactor substantially reduces equipment size and costs, while achieving high quality treated effluent suitable for reuse in non-potable and industrial applications. ECOfluid’s patented USBF™ technology is considered to be one of the most affordable and effective wastewater treatment systems in the world today and was cited by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as “State of the art…an important environmental process revolution”.

The company has won a number of awards and accolades in the past. In 2002 the University of California, Davis rated the USBF™ technology as the highest ranked biological treatment system out of almost seventy technologies reviewed.

In 2006, Frost & Sullivan awarded the technology Packaged Wastewater Treatment Technology Leadership of the Year Award, and at the 2007 Environmental Industry Summit in California, ECOfluid won the Technology Merit Award from the Environmental Business Journal.

On December 5, 2007 ECOfluid has been selected by the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) as one of 2007 winners for Canada's Top Ten Cleantech Companies Competition.
