WEF Issues Request For Proposals: 'Preparation Of Baseline Of The Current And Potential Use Of Biogas From Anaerobic Digestion At Wastewater Treatment Plants'

Source: Water Environment Federation (WEF) - WEFTEC

The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is seeking technical assistance to help with the development of a baseline of current and potential use of biogas at U.S. wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The submission deadline for the request for proposals (RFP) is 5:00 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, July 27, 2011.

Future energy trends are influenced by numerous factors including the relative cost of alternative energy supplies, new source discoveries, and the cost to extract and produce energy sources. If renewable energy becomes reliable and affordable, energy use may turn away from fossil fuels and towards greener fuel sources.

As the renewable energy sources and related technologies are evaluated, wastewater, biosolids, and biogas show promise as future energy sources that could reshape trends in the U.S. and beyond. To fully realize the benefits of these programs and of renewable energy as a whole, new technologies must be further developed and applied widely to provide clean, reliable, affordable energy on a much larger scale.

Through the RFP, WEF is seeking to assess the current and potential use of biogas from WWTPs for energy production and identify opportunities to support expanded biogas use through WEF's core focus areas. The final report will provide supporting information to help improve the development of programs, technology, and policy to encourage biogas production from anaerobic digestion.

Interested parties may submit a proposal that includes a description of the proposed technical approach, qualifications and experience, as well as a detailed cost proposal. Click here to download the complete RFP.
