Trihedral Engineering Limited is proud to announce that its VTScada software was front and center as Florida’s St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) unveiled their new ‘turn-key’ SCADA system. The system, designed and installed by Star Controls, Inc., uses VTScada to provide primary monitoring and control of the District’s flood prevention infrastructure.

According to John E. Richmond, the Supervising Professional Engineer with SJRWMD, “The overall objective was to provide a secure, reliable, and automated system for remote gate control and monitoring which is able to fully function during normal conditions, and serve its prime flood-control purpose during conditions of duress.”

The system includes:

  • Real-time monitoring and control of 14 separate gates at 8 structures with Motorola Remote Terminal Units
  • Multiple remote control locations (Palatka, Palm Bay, and remote laptop access)
  • Infinite remote control locations (Palatka, Palm Bay offices, and any where the remote laptop can access the internet)
  • Redundant communication networks (Data Radio VHF and cellular public network, based on EDGE technology)
  • Proven technology and reliable products capable of operating during storm events and subsystems failures
  • Allows for the addition of additional gates structures and monitoring and control devices
  • Tight security to prevent unauthorized access

SJRWMD cut the Ribbon on their new system on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at a ceremony at the SJRWMD Palm Bay Service Center. Says Richmond, “VTScada is a big part of our project and I’m very pleased with it.”
