After a successful launch in March, YSI's EXO advanced water quality platform has been recognized as Environmental Protection's New Product of the Year in the Water category. 10 companies, including YSI, have won first-place awards in the 2012 Environmental Protection New Product of the Year contest. The contest attracted a record number of entries in categories ranging from Environmental Management to Wastewater.

Customer feedback played a key role in EXO's success. Feedback early and throughout the design process helped us create a monitoring platform (sondes, smart sensors, handheld display, and new software) that embraced by water professionals who want to collect vitally important water quality data at significantly lower operating costs and with improved data quality.

"YSI prides itself on offering monitoring solutions that operate reliably in the harshest conditions. EXO development was driven by this marketing definition and focused on solving customer problems and its early success is a testament to this R&D approach. We are looking forward to EXO's continued success and the development of additional analytic products based on the EXO platform," said Rob Ellison, R&D Director, YSI Incorporated, a Xylem brand.

"We are excited to share the EXO platform, which will provide a monitoring solution for thousands of environmental professionals over the next decade. Extensive customer feedback and needs assessments shaped the software and hardware design, and given the versatility of the platform we look forward to serving an expanding portfolio of water quality monitoring applications," said Tim Finegan, Product Manager, Environmental Monitoring Solutions, YSI Incorporated, a Xylem brand.

Award winners are highlighted on the Environmental Protection website.
