Article: Smart Meters Teach Consumers About Water Usage

Homeowners often go to great lengths to conserve electricity or use less gas or oil to heat their homes. Federal programs have offered huge rebates and tax incentives to weatherize homes, and consumers generally equate those improvements with lower utility bills.

The same theory doesn't hold true when it comes to water usage. Except for some very green homeowners who are installing low-flush toilets and WaterSense faucets and appliances, few seem to place a premium on water, or seem passionate about preserving it.
