Sauereisen Gives Back To The Community: Donating Food And Time To Aid Local Food Bank
O'Hara Township-based Sauereisen, Inc., a 112-year old manufacturer of corrosion-resistant materials, was looking for a project to benefit the local area and local people. On July 22nd, Sauereisen loaded up boxes of non-perishable grocery items, donated by the Sauereisen employees, and headed to Hartwood Acres for the 17th annual Pittsburgh Blues Festival, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank's largest annual event. After unloading the grocery items onto food bank trucks, all the attending volunteers from Sauereisen donated their time to work as traffic control, parking lot attendants, and welcome center hostesses at the Festival. Despite the oppressive heat, torrential down pour and roaring thunderstorms, event contributors from across the region persevered for a cause greater than themselves.
"There were several beneficial and very worthy projects that we discussed, but in the end, the employees had chosen a project to benefit many people of Allegheny County," said Sauereisen Sales Manager, Lake H. Barrett. "A committee narrowed the choices to three and selected the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank."
"We felt that this was a fundraiser that we could all participate in and we knew this was a worthy cause. Over the past sixteen years, the Blues Festival has raised more than $1.2M to fight hunger in 11 counties of southwestern Pennsylvania. We have a lot of neighbors in need and we want to reach out to them as best we can," says Mackenzie Paesano, Sauereisen's Sales Administrator.
