1. To start off, could you please elaborate on the salient features of your work, and the specific technical, business challenges that it tries to address?
The challenge is to choose technologies and reengineer them to adapt to decentralized treatment. We assume there will not be an operator present very often and the person assigned may have never operated a plant. Ditto with construction. We design things in a very simple way so people who have no knowledge and few tools can install our systems to work as intended. In the end, they get sound primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment with low cost simple systems.
2. What were the major challenges confronted by the developers/researchers in this domain? How did they address these challenges?
A big challenge was finding a very quiet low maintenance air blower design that could deliver air to 8 delivery systems in a self balancing manner. We also needed to design newer attached growth modules for both the shell and fill material unique for our application.
3. What is the significance of your research when compared to other existing approaches?
This goes beyond actual research and it developed into a product line that melds big flow and decentralized aspects of small flow for rural applications. Thus taking the positives aspects from both markets and melding them into a market that was under served.
4. What are the potential applications for your research work in the market?
Our applications are small developments both commercial and residential that want a near central treatment approach but are not hooked up to a central treatment system. Perfect for tight budgets and little operation and maintenance.

Some older patents apply. Some of the newer features have not been patented but kept as in-house knowledge.
