Resource Recovery, Reuse And Renewal Focus Of Upcoming WEF Specialty Conferences

Water and Energy 2015, WEF/IWA Residuals and Biosolids 2015 co-located this June in Washington, DC

Representing a broad spectrum of issues related to resource recovery, reuse, and renewal in the water sector, the Water Environment Federation (WEF) is presenting two individual, but related conferences this June in Washington, DC. Water and Energy 2015: Opportunities for Energy and Resource Recovery in the Changing World and the WEF/IWA Residuals and Biosolids Conference 2015: The Next Generation of Science, Technology and Management will be held June 8-10 and June 7-10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Jointly organized by WEF, the European Water Association, and the Japan Sewage Works Association, in cooperation with the Federal Water Quality Association (FWQA), the Chesapeake Water Environment Association (CWEA), and the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF), Water and Energy 2015 will draw water professionals from around the globe who are committed to expanding beyond waste disposal to resource recovery—a more accurate description of the full scope of beneficial services that the water sector provides to communities.

Jointly organized by WEF and the International Water Association (IWA), in cooperation with the FWQA, CWEA, and WERF, the WEF/IWA Residuals and Biosolids conference will build upon the concept of renewable resources by examining the latest developments and trends in solid waste management and its related byproducts.

WEF and its partners believe that by capturing valuable resources and useful products for society—such as clean renewable energy, recycled water, fertilizer, nutrients, heat, and even transportation fuel—the water sector is rapidly becoming manufacturing facilities, “green factories,” and “Utilities of the Future” that work to reduce costs and increase revenue, while becoming more sustainable, positive contributors to the environment.

The two conferences will simultaneously promote this exciting new paradigm and support knowledge exchange to further the goals and objectives of resource recovery, reuse, and renewal through hot topic workshops, technical sessions, facility tours, and robust exhibitions.

Respective topics for the events include wastewater aeration; mainstream deammonifaction; thermal energy recovery; biogas generation; the global methane initiative, climate change; utilities of the future; anaerobic digestion; nutrient recovery; conditioning and de-watering; and more. Of special note are tours and presentations about DC Water’s Blue Plains Facility, which was recently recognized for its innovative progress in renewable energy.

The super saver deadline for both events is May 8, 2015 and the registration deadline is May 29, 2015. Visit www.wef.org/conferences for complete details.

Credentialed media representatives may be eligible for complimentary registration. Please contact Lori Harrison at lharrison@wef.org for details.
